Background
Lahore 1947 is the most awaited action movie based on the play written by Asghar Wajahat’ “Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni” (In English – One who has not seen Lahore has not been born). The film was supposed to be released on the eve of Republic Day, 26th January 2025. The delay in release date is due to postproduction editing and according to some sources the film is expected to release this month, June 2025. However, the release date is not yet announced we could found in IMDB that the Director Rajkumar Santoshi indicated this film might be released by October or November 2025.
This is the third film of Sunny Deol after his successful reincarnation with Gadar 2, which collected more than INR 690 Cr worldwide, followed by “Jaat” that remains another “Hit” in the box office. This action movie 1947 Lahore is produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi who has directed three successful movies with Sunny Deol Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak.
Story line
The Partition between India and Pakistan during the independence era left such a deep consequence among people of the subcontinent that it still remains as an unforgettable trauma. Bollywood has attempted to capture its multifaceted crux on number of occasions when many directors came up with numerous films on this watershed moment.
The story of this movie Lahore 1947 is also based on division between two nations India and Pakistan, which follows the story of a Muslim family who migrated from City of Lucknow to Lahore, Pakistan. The family was allocated a haveli (mansion) in Pakistan which was vacated by a Hindu family who fled from the area during that time. The equation gets complex when this Muslim family discovers an elderly Hindu lady residing in the haveli. This Hindu lady refuses to vacate the place when requested by the new entrant. The unexpected meet up has raised communal tensions and complex emotional dynamics as the characters navigate reality during the backdrop of most turbulent periods of Indian history.
Star Cast
Director, Rajkumar Santoshi mentioned in one interview that he loved this story by Asghar Wajahat and was waiting for two decades, as he couldn’t find any interested producer to finance this project. As soon as he introduced it to producer Amir Khan who was not only inspired but also ready to go forward with the movie. The iconic star Sunny Deol was the only choice after the success of Gadar 1 which also was based on Partition. Other co-stars include Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Ali Fazal and Shabana Azmi. Karan Deol the elder son of Sunny Deol is also part of this movie. Preity Zinta to mark her comeback in Bollywood after a gap of 7 years. The music is composed by A. R. Rahman.

The shooting of this movie is already completed by August 2024. As of now, “Lahore 1947” is set to release in June 2025, while any specific date is yet to be announced. The release date is shifted from republic day 26th Jan 2025 to June 2025. Amir Khan is well known for being meticulous about craftsmanship and considering the star cast like Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Rajkumar Santoshi (Director), project of this magnitude requires immense dedication and expertise.
